Sob elected president of Dalit women´s body

KATHMANDU: The Third National General Convention of the Dalit Women’s Association has elected a new working committee under the chairmanship of Mrs Durga Sob.

Likewise, the general convention elected Ranju Biswokarma as vice-chairperson, Kala Swarnakar as the general-secretary, Punyawati Ramtel as secretary, Kamala Biswokarma as treasurer and Kalpana Nepali Pariyar as the joint general-secretary.

Shanti Devi Paswan has been elected member from the Eastern Development Region, Pabitra Biswokarma from the Central Region, Chameli Pariyar from the Western Region, Manju Sunar from the Mid-western Region and Punam Sijapati from the Far-western Region.

The Dalit Women’s Association established in 2051 B.S. has expanded to 45 districts. It has been working in sectors of empowerment of the women from the Dalit communities and raising their awareness.

The newly-elected chairperson Sob said three members would be picked from the Badi, Gaine and backward communities.
