NAD Definition of Dalit

The term “Dalit” has different meanings for different people. The most common use of the term is to define people who were once known as “untouchables”, separated from the rest of society by the caste system. Navsarjan defines the ideological context of the word to mean three things.

v                                     Someone who believes in equality,
v             practices equality in his or her life, and
v            Protests inequality wherever he or she sees it.

By clubbing above mentioned three components Navsarajan define Dalit as “Dalit is one who believes in equality, who practices equality and who combats inequality”. (Also see http://navsarjan.org/navsarjan/dalits/dalitmovement)

National Academy for Dalit (NAD) accepts Navsarajan definition of Dalit because it defines in wider sense as well as practical in practical sense. This definition brooder the scope of work and will help in reach to unreached section of society (Non Dalit – does not believe in equality) make discrimination free society. NAD performs his work in keeping above definition in mind.
